Luxury Yacht Charters in St Martin

St Martin is known as the party island of the Caribbean due to the abundance of casinos and its wild nightlife. Excellent dining options duty free shopping and direct flights from the USA and Europe means it is a popular starting and finishing location for yacht charters in the Leeward Islands. With beautiful beaches and excellent shore side facilities, a charter around St Martin provides a good mix of coastal and blue water cruising.

Cruising in St Martin

To the South of Anguilla, Saint Martin is the smallest Island divided between two nations in the world, France holding 53 square kilometers and the remaining 34 sq. kilometers being held by the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

St Martin combines the best aspects of its dual nationality, with tax-free shopping, casinos & nightlife on the Dutch side along with chic fashions and excellent cuisine thanks to the French. The entire Island offers spectacular beaches.

What you need to know …

It’s Euro’s on the French side, whilst the Dutch half uses the Netherlands Antillean guilder (soon to be replaced by the Caribbean GUILDER). Almost every store also accepts the US dollar, although sometimes at a more expensive exchange rate. Rental cars are cheap and plentiful, from $25 per day in the low season, however roads can be very congested after 4pm. There are rarely checks at the border between the two sides of the Island but it is advisable to always carry photo ID.

Don’t be shocked by people taking advantage of the clothing optional policy on Orient Bay beach!

Simpson Bay Bridge opens at least three times per day for yachts to enter and depart the large lagoon. Enjoy the parade from the Yacht Club bar right next to the bridge.

St Martin is all about shopping, nightlife and beaches – if you are looking for seclusion and privacy this is not the Island for you.

Activities

The boardwalk at Philipsburg on the Dutch side provides duty free shopping on electronics, jewelry, liquor & tobacco.

For local arts, crafts, spices and souvenirs meander the local market at the French capitol, Marigot.

Hike to the old Fort at Marigot for lovely views and a small insight into the Islands troubled history.

Known as the Gourmet capital of the Caribbean, Grand Case has plenty of eateries to choose from and a good selection of lively bars.

If you’re feeling lucky there are plenty of Casinos on the Dutch side, one of the best at Maho village, which also hosts late night bars and nightclubs.

Water-sports abound on St Martin from kite-surfing, windsurfing, parasailing to diving and snorkeling.

Many consider Orient Bay to be the island’s most beautiful beach, with an excellent selection of bars, restaurants, water toys and activities – you can easily spend a full day here.

Loterie Farm is a peaceful 150-acre private nature reserve with hiking trails. Hire a cabana for the afternoon by the spring-fed pool or if you are brave then tackle the treetop adventure and zip line – not for the fainthearted.

Enjoy a cold beer at the Sunset Bar and watch the spectacular approaches by large jets at this short runway.

Aviation photographers flock to capture pictures of large jets just a few meters above sunbathers, who often get caught in the sandstorm caused by jet blast.

Planning Your Yacht Charter in St Martin

A crewed yacht charter is the ultimate indulgence – for some a once in life-time experience, for others a yearly ritual exploring new locations and exciting destinations only accessible by boat. Along with the captain we’ll assist in planning a comprehensive itinerary prior to your charter based on your interests and requests, as well as pointing out the “must sees” in the area.

St Martin has daily direct flights from the USA and Europe which makes the island an excellent starting and finishing point for your luxury yacht charter. The large, modern airport facilitates an easy transfer to your yacht.

Contact our charter specialists and we will guide you through the booking process including assisting with airport transfers and pre charter hotel recommendations.

Choosing A Luxury Yacht & Crew

Once we have discussed your preferences in detail we will present selections of online yacht brochures with photos, menus and crew details and will continue to do so until we find the perfect match for you in terms of size, style & budget.

If you have firm dates in mind we’ll confirm availability with the owner and place a courtesy hold on your dates whilst your charter agreement is prepared and signed. It’s a good idea to have a second choice in mind, especially for busy holiday periods when yachts book up quickly.

We recommend booking your charter at least six months in advance to ensure that we secure your preferred yacht. Some of the most sought after yachts will book one year in advance for certain weeks or events. It is always possible to accommodate last minute bookings however we do recommend booking as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Twice a year we personally inspect the yachts and spend time with the crew to ensure that we are representing only the very best.

When to go

St Maarten offers excellent cruising from November through to August with many motor yachts using the Island as its base. It’s excellent jumping off point to explore the Anguilla, St Barths or even take a one-way trip to the British Virgin Islands.

The Island is always busy during the winter season; this peaks at Christmas & New Year as well as early March when thousands of sailors arrive for the partying and racing at the Heineken sailing regatta.
